Starting the Dance

Before getting into any moves, we have to organize the dancers. This begins with all the dancers standing roughly in a circle. Dancers take the hand of those on either side, and then walk away from the center of the circle until their arms are fully extended. This designates the outside circle (for some calls, there will also be an inside circle). Hands are dropped. The the caller would call "Right Foot In" (below). When all the dancers are together, this would typically be followed by "Big Apple Swing" (aka "Swing Out")

Right Foot In

On odd beats (i.e. on the 1 & 3) all dancers tap their right foot inside the circle. This is used at the beginning of the dance as well as to reestablish beat/organization when needed.
